Swing State Newspaper Slams Trump: ‘Crippled Cognitively’ With ‘Clear Signs Of Mental Illness’

The Las Vegas Sun also talked about the Republican nominee's "hateful character."

The Las Vegas Sun ― in the 2024 election swing state of Nevada, where polling puts former President Donald Trump less than 1 percentage point ahead of Democratic rival Kamala Harris ― has delivered a stinging rebuke of the GOP nominee.

The newspaper warned in an editorial published Wednesday that not only does Trump’s “racism, sexism, xenophobia” and more make him totally “unfit for any public office” but that his “mental acuity and sharpness are also in decline.”

“The nation must confront the fact that beyond his hateful character, he is crippled cognitively and showing clear signs of mental illness,” its board wrote, providing multiple examples of Trump’s “fragility.”

Trump “has never had the moral compass to lead this country,” the newspaper concluded. “But even his supporters cannot afford to ignore the signs that he may no longer have the mental faculties to lead it either. The stakes are simply too high.”

Less than a week before Election Day they are calling attention to the "unsettling and undeniable shift" that suggests he's not healthy enough to become the oldest president ever inaugurated after canceling numerous public appearances due to exhaustion and struggling to complete sentences when he does show up.

"Americans from both sides of the political spectrum should be alarmed by Trump’s words and behavior," the editorial board wrote. "The nation must confront the fact that beyond his hateful character, he is crippled cognitively and showing clear signs of mental illness."

The board said the evidence was abundant and obvious and required no expert analysis, citing as an example a recent "disjointed monologue" in New Hampshire, where he rambled about the perceived injustices he faced and then segued into a rant about windmills causing cancer.

"This is not an isolated incident," the board wrote. "Trump’s rally speeches over the past eight years have become darker, longer, more profane and increasingly unfocused and unhinged — a troubling sign that he is no longer able to articulate ideas or reason in ways we expect of our leaders. This makes him prey to manipulations by his own staff or, worse, the control of foreign adversaries."

Donald Trump’s photo-op with a garbage truck on Wednesday almost got off to a disastrous start as the former president appeared to miss the door handle and almost slipped on the wet ground.

Trump also briefly grabbed his right thigh, then ultimately made it into the truck with some visible effort.

The moment takes place at about 15 seconds into the C-SPAN coverage of the photo-op:

Trump later in the evening said that the truck was too big.

“I said how the hell do you get into this truck? It’s way up high,” he said at a rally in Wisconsin. “I said they didn’t have to buy it that big, right? You have to get it that big?”

He said he realized how embarrassing it would be if he couldn’t get into the truck with the “fake news” watching.

“So the first stair’s like up here,” he said, raising his arm to his waist, although the stair was actually at knee height. “I said, ‘Shit.’ So I had the adrenaline going and I made it.”

Trump’s trashy photo-op comes after a comic at his campaign rally in New York City on Sunday called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage,” leading to multiple high-profile Latino stars to speak out against Trump, including Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, while reggaeton star Nicky Jam took back his endorsement of Trump.

Trading on Trump Media was halted twice Thursday as shares plummeted in the wake of a racist rally at Madison Square Garden.

DJT stock had dropped nearly 14 percent when trading was halted for a second time at 10:04 a.m. due to volatility, reported CNBC. It had earlier stopped and been restarted.
